EMEA-wide humanitarian aid
Sylvania Lighting has initiated a large-scale, EMEA-wide project to support Ukrainian refugees who are currently accommodated in Hungary. With over 500.000 people entering Hungary in the past month, many seeking refugee status, Europe is facing one of the biggest migration crises in over 80 years.
Sylvania Lighting and its employees from all European locations wanted to provide help and support to get much needed supplies direct to the point of need. During the month of March, Sylvania enlisted the help of every European Sylvania Lighting office to collect goods such as non-perishable foods, baby care materials and healthcare products. These items were offered by Sylvania Lighting employee as well as our trusted business partners from around Europe. Sylvania Lighting utilised their freight and distribution capability to transport all items to Hungary, where they will now be distributed by Hungarian Baptist Aid, a reputable and well established aid organisation.
Quick results, more than 2.5 tons of items gathered
We are pleased to report that approximately 2.5 tons of items, and an additional 6000€ were gathered in a short period of time. Many countries took part in the project including Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Hungary.
“The Hungarian Baptist Aid have supported Ukrainian refugees since the very beginning. We are one of the six charitable organisations who operate support points by the Ukrainian border, and we are also present in the BOK Hall (Budapest Olympic Centre). It is one of the biggest venues, where refugees are being supplied. Thank you Sylvania Lighting for all the support.” – Tamás Tihanyi, Hungarian Baptist Aid.
“It is an honour that we have been able to assist those who are in need at this time with the support of Hungarian Baptist Aid. It has been a pleasure to see how willing our Sylvania Lighting employees, Management Team and our business partners have been to help and donate such large amounts. Thank you to everyone who joined us in this initiative.” – Szilvia Bokker, Sylvania Lighting HR Manager.
